KeyStay Guest app

web-based app • under development • 2023 - 2024

overview

KeyStay Guest App is a tool that acts as a 24/7 virtual reception desk that is also able to provide personalised recommendations for travellers based on their location.
The need for developing the KeyStay Guest app emerged from the understanding that there was a disconnect between the tedious standard check-in procedures, generic recommendations regarding points of interest, and the tourists' desire for autonomy.

the challenge

Some of the challenges of this project included:

  • integrating KeyStay Guest app into the KeyStay ecosystem (along turo.ro and Kleanstay)

  • creating a seamless virtual experience that mimics the interaction with a physical reception desk

project constraints

  • limited time frame: we had a 4-month timeframe to develop and integrate an alpha version of this solution in the KeyStay ecosystem (consisting of turo.ro and Kleanstay as well)

features

KeyStay Guest app aims to provide a range of complex services, including the following (please note that not all the features listed below will be included in the alpha version of our product):

  • User dashboard for personalized stay information and service requests

  • Curated local recommendations and customizable itineraries with personalization based on user preferences

  • Real-time updates and notifications

  • Feedback and review system

  • Interactive maps and navigation

  • Event schedules and booking options

  • Service request management (KleanStay integration)

  • Multilingual support

screens

Building on the initial set of features, I designed user flows and mockups that brought the user journey to life.

Navigate the KeyStay Guest app experience with these key feature user flows:

Home page

The home page header will always display the key information: the accommodation address, a way to share the address, as well as the wi-fi password and the property's unique access code.
The home page is the main access point to all the features within the app, and it also serves an informative purpose as the user will be offered location-based recommendations.

Requesting additional items

The flow starts with the home page, followed by the “room service” screen offering options for the items the users can request. Scheduling the item delivery will be available in order to accommodate the travelers’ schedules and preferences.

Points of interest

Other than the nearby recommendations on the home page, the users will have access to several categories of points of interest, such as supermarkets, ATMs, pharmacies, landmarks, and restaurants. KeyStay’s administrators are able to add, remove, or edit categories based on user feedback.

a glimpse into the future

The app is scheduled to be released in an alpha state by late March 2024. The first couple of months will act as a buffer before launch, during which user feedback will be gathered from a small group of users using surveys. We’ll focus on overall usability and some particularities. After implementing the changes based on the feedback we have received, the app will become accessible to all of turo.ro’s clients, though no official date has been decided on just yet.

Updates are on the way!

my role

As the sole user experience designer on our team, I was in charge of every step of the design process.

the goal

KeyStay Guest app is aimed at travelers who prefer a more independent and informed stay, offering insights into local restaurants, events, experiences, and cultural hotspots. The goal is to develop a robust web application, which not only simplifies the tourist experience but also caters to their specific needs during their stay.
